I have great pleasure in briefly recapitulating the events leading to the development of the first ever Medical teaching institution in the private sector of the country. It's already over 24 years since I, along with 8 of my illustrious colleagues, conceived the bold idea of establishing a private medical college. We were driven by motivation to produce quality medical professionals to caters the needs of the health sector of the country and also the attain the cherised goal of health for all. We felt that it could become difficult for the government to achieve this goal on its own alone. I feel proud to add that our Article of Association includes an unalienable provision to run the organization on zero profit basis. We continue to practice the motto that all operating surplus, if any, would be utilized only for the development of the institution. We were also pledge bound to shun any tendency to compromise the quality to it in the area of education or health care services and that in course of time the institution would be turned into a centre of exellence. Our track record on all these counts remain impeccable.
Bangladesh Medical College (BMC) is one of the three units, others being Uttara Adhunik Medical College (UAMC) and Bangladesh Dental College (BDC) under the Bangladesh Medical Studies and Research Institute (BMSRI) the apex body. Over the period of service its inception, BMC has produced over 1500 doctors, including some from foreign countries and non resident Bangladeshis from north America and countries in the Middle East. It gives me immense pleasure in learning that the alumni have attained excellence in professional skills both at home and abroad. This tself speaks of high professional competence of its members of the faculty, doctors and the supporting. The college is adequately equipped with state of the art teaching aid, facilities and infrastructure build on its own premises, the hospital can rightfully boost of its facilities such as ICU, CCU, neonatal ICU, operation theatres fully equipped to conduct major and minor surgery, including brain surgery, nephrological and urological serivces, internal medicine, gynecological units, emergency and trauma center and whole range of diagnostic facilities. The library of the college is rich with text and reference materials with the capabililty to cater to the needs of education and research.
Annually the hospital provides indoor and out door services to over 200000 patients. Considering the growing demands for health care services, the hospital is now being upgraded further with addition of beds. This is now recognized as one of the prime institution for providing education training and health services. All the above were made possible by the untiring effort levels of the founders, faculty members, doctors and all the supporting facilities. I remain grateful for their dedication to turn this into a centre of excellence. We are also grateful to their goverment and our well-wishers who remain our constant sources of inspiration. Our motto remains as "Quality medical education and health care services" to make our land more liable for all. I urge upon all to join hands in realizing a dreams that was initiated a quarter century back.
